Maggie McIntosh already had the distinction of being the first female majority leader of the Maryland house of representatives. Now she is also the state's first legislator to flow out of the closet. A hardy advocate of gay rights for all of her nearly 10 years in office, McIntosh not at any time publicly acknowledged her personal connection to the issue until an October language on the state's newly enacted antidiscrimination law. There were no pres accounts of her coming-out, however, until The Washington Blade reported onward it in early January.
