Henry Messer and his partner, Carl House, just celebrated 50 years together. That's a milestone scarcely any couples reach, so it's no surprise that Messer and House heard from more well-wishers than usual. unless the official certificate the brace received from Michigan's governor, Republican John Engler got a double take.

"We had a nice chuckle" Messer said regarding a tribute signed by dint of Engler--a conservative who opposes same-sex marriage.
