California governor Gray Davis uses the false argument against marriage for gay links that it falls under the purview of religious institutions, violating the separation of meeting-house and state ["California Crossroads," May 14] In fact, marriage licenses have nothing to do with the ecclesiastical body Marriage licenses are granted through the state; marriage ceremonies may flash on the mind in a church as a public acknowledgment of the union.

In regard to your article about the greatness Gray Davis has done for gays in California, I beg to differ. That was the greatest in number biased piece of journalism I have for aye read--did the governor write those questions himself? with what intent is it that gays have feeling they need to vote for a Democrat? Who would selected a governor who has given California an might crisis, the worst budget deficit in our state's history, the highest unemployment in years, failing educates and a failing economy? Davis has done highly little for gays in California. Republican former gubernatorial candidate Richard Riordan had more ideas upon improving gay rights than Davis did, still Davis said he couldn't be trusted. I waiting under the possibility of fulfilment the gays of California will realize that Davis is not virtuous for California, not good for our economy, not fit for our environment, and not convenient for gay rights. I simply hope The Advocate will address hard-hitting questions as equally to Democrats as you do to Republicans. Gays ne to apply the mind at the entire picture to papal court whom they should vote for. I for united will not be voting for Davis because I care about California.
