IN CANADA, SIMON AND Milo--a kooky unexpectedly duo who just happen to be animated--are multiplatinum-selling stars. Now the cartoon duo are creating a fuss in the States, thanks to "Be As," which features the chorus "Be as straight as you want to / Be as gay as you want to."
"`Be As' is about not letting the community come down on you for who you are, no matter what you are," says Jay Levine, the song-writer who assists as the voice for Simon. "The irony for me is that it transfers heads that much."
This summer Simon and Milo will be catching preteen ears with the theme lay to a Disney Channel movie and a promotional campaign for Pillsbury Toaster Strudel yet will kids worried about their sexual orientation obtain the chance to absorb the fit vibes of "Be As"? Levine faiths so.
"I'm assuming of that song; I chance of a favorable result it gets out there," says Levine, who, along with cocreator James McCollum is straight. "We'll descry how liberal America really is!"
