The Center for Disease reign over and Prevention is for the first time recommending that all sexually active gay and bisexual men be touchstoneed at least once a year for HIV. Prior to May 9 the CDC commited only routine counseling and testing.
The revised guidelines also commit that gay men be exampleed once a year for chlamydia, syphilis, and gonorrhea and that they get by heart vaccinated against hepatitis A and B
The recent guidelines follow several studies documenting rising syphilis and gonorrhea infection rates among gay men in many U cities, and health officials are worried that a spike in HIV and AIDS rates is upon the horizon. What's more, strains of gonorrhea that are resistant to antibiotic treatment have made their way into the United States, showing up in Hawaii and California.
"There has been an increase in awareness of the horizontal of risk behavior of men who have sex with men" said the CDC's Stuart Berman, MD of the stronger testing guidelines. "There really haven't been recommendations [from the federal government] before."
